Session Description: 

Coaching preschool children presents its own challenges in the gymnastics environment. In order to effectively teach young children, it is important to understand their developmental stages and how those stages affect behavior as well as cognitive understanding. In this session we will cover the following topics and how they relate to effective communication with preschoolers:

  • Perception of Self
  • Levels of Thought
  • Fantasy & Games
  • Emergence of Pessimism: The Delayed Terrible Twos
  • Learning Styles
  • "One, Two, Three Rule"
  • Discipline: Avoiding Time-Out

Beth Gardner, owner of Heart of Texas Gymnastics located in Temple, Texas has an extensive background specializing in preschool gymnastics. 

In addition to experience as a Preschool Director, coach and gym owner, she is a co-author and director for the Instructor Training Program (ITP) for the Gymnastics Association of Texas (GAT) and serves as a GAT board member.
